Our focus remains on a variety of subject areas and we always work towards producing research of vital significance. The department strives to promote and disseminate interdisciplinary studies in the key areas of Literature, Language, Linguistics, and Literary and Critical Theories. With our resources, specialist faculty members and efficient supportive staff, the students are exposed to a conducive academic atmosphere that they need to become confident and independent scholars. The department combines teaching, research and public engagement to inculcate students with a sense of excellence not only in the aesthetic appreciation of the artistic interpretation of life, and creative practices but also in the theoretically-grounded study of literature. With an emphasis on research-based learning and the creation of knowledge, the department brings all aspects related to its domain under the academic purview. Our thrust areas of research are Film Studies, Applied Language Studies, American Literature, Postcolonial Studies, Cultural Studies, and Feminism. Admission at all levels is through a demanding Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
Mission
The mission of our programs is to make the students familiar with representative literary and cultural texts within a significant number of historical, geographical, and cultural contexts. We teach students in such a way that they shall be able to apply critical and theoretical approaches to the reading and analysis of literary and cultural texts in multiple genres. Students are equipped with the skills to identify, analyze, interpret and describe the critical ideas, values, and themes that appear in literary and cultural texts and understand the way these ideas, values, and themes inform and impact culture and society, both now and in the past. Another major objective is to make the students capable of writing analytically in a variety of formats, including essays, research papers, reflective writing, and critical reviews of secondary sources. Students are enabled to ethically gather, understand, evaluate and synthesize knowledge from a variety of written and electronic sources. Students are made proficient in oral communication and writing as well.
